Midnight Zoomies

Have you ever been so tired yet, your mind is wide awake with ideas, plans, and thoughts?

Midnight Zoomies

There is a very specific kind of tired that only happens at night.

I’m talking about the kind where your body is completely exhausted, your eyes are burning, and you’ve been yawning for the last three hours. You finally crawl into bed, pull the blankets up, get comfortable, and close your eyes.

Finally. Sleep.

Except your brain has apparently just clocked in.

“Oh, hey! Since you’re awake, let’s talk about everything.”

Everything?

Everything.

This is what I call the Midnight Zoomies—that magical little window between roughly 11:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. when your body desperately wants to sleep, but your brain suddenly has the energy of a toddler who found the candy drawer.

At 11:30, you’re thinking, I’m going to bed early tonight.

By midnight, you’re replaying a conversation from four years ago wondering if you sounded weird.

You probably didn’t.

Nobody else remembers it.

But your brain has decided this is an important investigation, so now you’re lying there reconstructing the entire conversation like you’re solving a federal case.

Then comes the phone.

You tell yourself you’re only checking the time.

That is a lie.

You scroll “for just a minute,” and somehow twenty minutes later you’re watching a woman clean grout with a toothbrush.

You don’t care about grout.

You have never cared about grout.

But now you need to see the finished bathroom.

By 1:00 a.m., your brain has moved on to random questions.

Do penguins have knees?

Could I pull off bangs?

What if I started a business?

I should probably reorganize my closet.

Maybe I need a whole new routine.

Actually, I should completely change my life.

And suddenly you’re mentally creating a five-year plan at 1:17 in the morning while your laundry has been sitting in the dryer for three days.

Then, around 2:00 a.m., something even more ridiculous happens.

You get a second wind.

You were ready to pass away peacefully into your pillow thirty minutes ago, and now you feel like you could deep-clean the entire house.

You could reorganize the kitchen.

Start that project.

Clean the bathroom.

Become financially responsible.

Possibly reinvent yourself.

At 2:14 a.m., you’re convinced tomorrow is going to be the day you finally get your life together.

Meanwhile, your alarm is set for six.

Eventually, somewhere around 3:00 a.m., you finally surrender.

You put the phone down.

You close your eyes.

Your brain goes, “Okay, goodnight!”

OH, NOW YOU’RE READY?!

Where was this cooperation two hours ago?

But whatever. You’re finally drifting off.

And then you realize you have to pee.

Of course you do.

The next morning, your alarm goes off and you stare at it like it personally offended you.

You hit snooze.

Then snooze again.

Then one more time because apparently getting out of bed requires a committee meeting.

You drag yourself up, running on caffeine, exhaustion, and regret, and make yourself a promise:

“Tonight, I’m going to bed early.”

And you mean it.

You really do.

Until 11:30 p.m. rolls around again.

Your head hits the pillow.

Your body is exhausted.

Your brain slowly wakes up.

“Hey…”

You already know.

“Remember that embarrassing thing you did in 2014?”

You stare into the darkness.

“Girl. I swear to God.”

And just like that…

The Midnight Zoomies are back. 🌙😂
