Funky Slump

When you just are not you.

By The Keeper·August 30, 2026

Getting Out of a Funk

Sometimes you just wake up in a funk.

There’s no dramatic reason for it. No major life crisis. No rain pouring outside while sad music plays in the background.

You just… don’t feel like yourself.

Everything feels harder than it should. Getting out of bed feels like a personal attack. The dishes are suddenly your enemy. Your laundry has become part of the furniture. Even answering a text feels like something that requires a meeting with management.

And the worst part?

You don’t even know how to explain it.

You just know you’re stuck.

So you tell yourself you’ll snap out of it tomorrow.

Then tomorrow comes.

And you’re still in the same spot.

Eventually, I realized getting out of a funk doesn’t always mean having some huge “new me” moment. Sometimes it starts with something ridiculously small.

Take a shower.

Put on clean clothes.

Open the curtains.

Drink something other than whatever you’ve been surviving on.

Put the dishes away before they start forming their own government.

Go outside for ten minutes.

It sounds almost too simple, but sometimes you don’t need to completely fix your life. You just need to remind yourself that you’re still living it.

And honestly, I think we put way too much pressure on ourselves to suddenly become motivated.

Sometimes motivation comes after you start moving, not before.

You don’t have to wake up tomorrow with a five-year plan, a spotless house, a new workout routine, and the sudden desire to become a morning person.

God forbid.

Start small.

Make your bed.

Put on your favorite song.

Clean one corner of the room.

Answer one message.

Do one thing you’ve been putting off.

Then do another.

And if all you accomplish that day is taking a shower and changing out of the clothes you slept in?

Congratulations.

You still moved forward.

Getting out of a slump isn’t always some big, beautiful transformation. Sometimes it’s just slowly finding your way back to yourself.

One little thing at a time.

And eventually, you look around and realize you’re not quite as stuck as you thought you were.

Maybe you’re not completely out of the funk yet.

That’s okay.

You’re moving.

And sometimes moving is enough. 💛
